When does the Help to Buy scheme end?

A decade after it launched in April 2013, the Government backed Help to Buy scheme is sadly coming to an end on March 31, 2023.

But if you think you still have plenty of time, you don’t. The deadline by which you need to apply for the scheme is October 31st 2022.

This initiative is widely offered on many new build developments and has greatly benefited first-time buyers to get on the property ladder as it makes it possible to buy a property with as little as a 5% deposit and 75% mortgage, with the Government lending buyers up to 20% of the value of the property.

Latest government figures show that 355,634 homes have been bought with a Help to Buy loan since 2013, with first-time buyers accounting for 83%.

Both houses and apartments are available through the scheme but the value of the property you’re purchasing can’t be over a specified regional price cap. The regional price caps for Hertfordshire is £407,400.

The property purchased must be your only residence & is not available to assist buy-to-let investors or those who will own any property other than their Help to Buy home.

A good financial advisor will be able to help you with this process and discuss your eligibility – Buying your first home might come sooner than you think AND could be more financially viable too – only if you use this FINAL OPPORTUNITY to reserve using Help to Buy! We can recommend an excellent financial advisor who can look at your affordability and help to establish if the scheme is right for you.

Key Dates To Note

Final Help to Buy applications submitted 31st October 2022.

Help to Buy Agents have advised any applications received after this date will not qualify for the scheme regardless of the date they reserved the property.

Practical completion of the home must be 31st March 2022.
