An insight into Sewell & Gardner after my first month as a Lettings Negotiator.
After graduating from university in July with a degree in Geography I was unsure about what career route to take but had a keen interest in the property industry. I was lucky enough to be offered the role of Graduate Lettings Negotiator at Sewell & Gardner. Although I have only been here for a short period of time I have already learnt so much and feel I have gained a real insight into the world of estate agency.
Being a Lettings Negotiator is such a varied role; everyday I face different challenges and I am constantly learning new elements of the job. Multi-tasking is definitely an essential skill but I can certainly say it is never boring! The office is a professional and busy environment but also full of friendly people who are always willing to help.
The first thing I noticed when I began my career at Sewell & Gardner was how much each individual cares, not only about the excellent service they provide, but also about each other. Within a few days of starting work I had already met each of the directors and received training from senior members of staff. The induction training gave me an insight into the history of the company and the paths various employees had followed to the jobs they are doing today. This was extremely motivational and I immediately could see myself relishing the opportunity to progress within such a fast moving and pro-active environment. Since then I have received constant support and assistance whilst I learn the ropes of such a diverse and fulfilling role.
Now that I have been here a month I have noticed certain aspects of estate agency that Sewell & Gardner embrace, which other agents dismiss, such as tremendous after care and keeping in touch with both our landlords and our tenants, long after the tenancy has started. This is one of the many reasons why S&G are such a unique, prestigious and award winning company. An example of this would be the hand delivered ‘Bags4Life’ full of household essentials which are given to new tenants when they move in and the 24-7-28 calls we make to both the tenant and landlord after they have moved in, to make sure that everything is going smoothly and assist with any snagging issues which may have arisen.
My director Jane is passionate about utilising social media as a marketing tool and I have found it particularly interesting learning about how this can be useful for our business. I have even been on a training course to help me understand how I can help the team to implement Facebook & Twitter into our daily jobs, without distracting from our essential work of letting property! This is yet another example of something that Sewell & Gardner do in order to distinguish themselves from other agents.
I still have a long way to go before I become a fully qualified Lettings Negotiator and even when I am I think I will continue to learn throughout my journey in estate agency, but with the support of the fantastic team here I’m sure it will be an exciting and rewarding one!
