Buying a shared ownership home can seem quite complex especially if you are a first time buyer so here’s a helpful step by step guide on how Sewell & Gardner can help you buy your shared ownership home:

Register

Register your interest in shared ownership by calling our team on 01923 776400 or clicking register at the bottom of this page. We will then add you to our shared ownership waiting list and keep you posted on any property matches.

1

Get financially qualified

Once you have seen the details for a property of interest, we will arrange to get you financially qualified to determine what share you can afford. If you don't have a mortgage broker in place already, we can refer you to our recommended financial advisors, Severn Financial, who deal with shared ownership a lot.

2

Viewing

Once you pass the affordability check, we will arrange a viewing. This will give you a chance to see the property & ask any questions you may have about it or shared ownership in general.

3

Apply

If you like the property & wish to proceed we will then talk you through the application process. This process will vary depending on the housing provider.

4

Submit an application

Once completed, we will submit your application to the housing association for them to review. If approved, we will then be in touch to gather additional information we require to agree the sale. This will include ID & proof of address to carry out our Anti Money Laundering (AML) checks.

5

The legal stuff

We can refer you to our recommended solicitors, The Partnership, who we work very closely with on our shared ownership sales. It's important to choose a solicitor who has experience dealing with shared ownership transactions. We will also be here to guide you through every step of the purchase all the way up to completion day.

6

Completion

On completion day we will hand you the keys to your new home!
